The Perfect Ending

this song is often misinterpreted as a happy song, and I'm requested to play it at a lot of shows, but if you look a little deeper at the lyrics and read between the lines, you will find a different emotion peeking through.  I heard Jimmy Martin play at one of his last shows in Nashville when I moved here in 2003 and had been hooked on his music for quite some time.  As I became more of an avid bluegrass listener, I noticed the melodies and rhythm were always upbeat, but the lyrics seldom were.  Of course there is another story behind my lyrics, but I won't go into that right now.

I've got the perfect ending, a little song I'm sending, I've got the perfect ending for you.

It don't matter to me if you see right through me; I've got the perfect ending, and I'm sending it to you.

Only the truth will fill us, even if it kills us, so why don't we start tellin' the truth?

And it's only lies that shatter everything that matters,

then like a broken record, they keep coming back to you.

But I've got the perfect ending a little song I'm sending, I've got the perfect ending for you.

It don't matter to me if you see right through me, I've got the perfect ending and I'm sending it to you.

Oh don't you wish for something that doesn't end with nothing, a little break from the blues?

I've got the perfect ending, a little song I'm sending, I've got the perfect ending, and I'm sending it to you.
